Shettima Supporters Warn APC of Retaliation Over Any Removal Bid
Abuja – Supporters of Vice President Kashim Shettima have rejected claims that President Tinubu or religious leaders can unilaterally remove him from office. They point to Section 146 of the 1999 Constitution, which lists only resignation, death, impeachment, or certified medical incapacity as valid grounds for vacancy. In social media posts and interviews, a pro-Shettima coalition coordinator in Borno emphasized that any effort to oust the Vice President must follow parliamentary and judicial procedures. He noted that spiritual authorities like Pastor Adeboye hold no constitutional role in executive removals. No official statement has been issued by the Presidency, the APC leadership, or the National Assembly regarding any plan to sack Shettima. Legal experts concur that the President lacks the authority to dismiss a sitting Vice President without National Assembly approval. Analysts observe that constitutional debates often intensify as election seasons approach. They say groups use rule-of-law arguments to quell internal party speculation and maintain unity.
