Abakaliki FC Launches Early Rebuild as Coach Anistar Eyes NNL Promotion

Abakaliki FC Launches Early Rebuild as Coach Anistar Eyes NNL Promotion

Abakaliki FC head coach Starplus Izuikem Anistar has kicked off preparations for the 2026/27 Nigeria National League season just weeks after finishing the 2025/26 campaign in fourth place in Conference B. He gave players only five days’ rest before resuming training ahead of the President Federation Cup final on April 25, seeing the cup run as part of the rebuild process. Anistar is recruiting heavily and scouting talent at the ongoing Nationwide League One play-offs in Ebonyi State. He plans to blend youth prospects with experienced signings to mount a serious promotion challenge. Believing that an early start makes for a better finish, the coach rejects a fire-fighting approach. He wants the squad fully assembled before pre-season camp.

Restarting so quickly after a long season might risk player burnout, especially after a fourth-place finish rather than promotion.

I'm not convinced early rebuild guarantees promotion; a well-timed midseason break can boost morale more than packing training nonstop.

Balancing rest and training is crucial: a staggered schedule with recovery sessions could maintain fitness without risking exhaustion.
