How I Spotted a Scam Job Offer: Red Flags to Watch Out For

I learnt this the hard way after a scammer contacted me through a jobs and vacancies thread. He started with sympathy, claimed he understood depression, and offered to connect me with a freelance writing job. He swore by God and his life that he was genuine. But it was all a strategy to gain my trust. Scammers often sound kind, urgent and convincing before they ask for money, personal details or access to an account. Watch out for people who rush you, ask you to keep secrets, make dramatic promises or use religious oaths to prove themselves. Take your time, verify every offer independently and speak to someone you trust before making any decision. Stay vigilant. Do not let sympathy, desperation or pressure stop you from asking questions.

Swearing by God or sounding understanding should not automatically prove someone is genuine, especially in job discussions.

Before accepting any offer, verify the person independently and avoid sharing money or sensitive details too quickly.
