Ailing Activist Awa Bamiji Appeals to President Tinubu for Overseas Treatment
Comrade Awa Bamiji, a pro-democracy and June 12 activist, has written to President Bola Tinubu seeking urgent support for specialized medical care abroad. The letter dated July 15, 2026, from his home in Jinarere, Ibadan, outlines his struggle since suffering a stroke in November 2024. He expresses gratitude for the care received at University College Hospital, Ibadan, but says he still needs intensive physiotherapy, speech therapy, and costly medication. He cannot yet speak normally, walks with great difficulty, and suffers tremors that hamper daily activities. Bamiji notes that donations from Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu, NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa, and other leaders have been exhausted. He even sold his Audi to cover treatment costs and now lives in rented accommodation, facing severe financial strain. He urges President Tinubu to grant his plea for overseas care so he can fully recover and continue his advocacy work.
