Kogi Police Confirm Death of Catholic Priest Found Dead in Ajaokuta

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the death of Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro of St. Paul Parish, Ayetoro Gbede, in Ijumu LGA. Police said the priest's body was found beside Church Road in Ajaokuta on 29 July 2026. Officers who visited the scene reportedly found severe machete wounds on his head. He was taken to ASCL Hospital, where a doctor confirmed him dead. The body has been deposited for autopsy. Police say investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible before the case is transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
