From Pitch to Politics: Ex-Super Eagles Defender Shehu Abdullahi to Contest 2027 House Seat
Shehu Abdullahi has ended his football career to pursue a seat in the House of Representatives at the 2027 general election. The 33-year-old defender earned 37 caps for the Super Eagles between 2014 and 2019. He represented Nigeria at U-17, U-20 and U-23 levels, and played for clubs in Europe before returning to Kano Pillars in 2024. After his season with Kano Pillars, Abdullahi was appointed Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation to Sokoto State’s Commissioner for Sports. He has now aligned with the APC and plans to contest for the Sokoto North/South Federal Constituency. If elected, he would join a small group of former Nigerian footballers who have successfully transitioned to politics via the ballot.
