Ekiti Election Updates Show How Nigeria Can Make Results Verifiable
During the June 20 Ekiti governorship election, I opened a live update thread to follow documentary evidence rather than rumours or projections. As polling-unit Form EC8As appeared on INEC’s IReV portal, I processed them into a live scoreboard and posted regular snapshots. Readers could follow the results from polling units to wards, LGAs and the state total. By 6:41 p.m., more than 2,000 of Ekiti’s 2,445 polling-unit results had been uploaded. That suggests Nigeria can build election-night coverage around verifiable result sheets, not just claims about who is leading. As Osun approaches its August 15 election and Nigeria looks towards 2027, the key question should be: which polling units produced these totals? Election Night should also be Evidence Night.
