Anambra Teen Stages Her Own Kidnapping to Extort ₦3M, Police Arrest Accomplices
The Anambra State Police recently exposed an 18-year-old girl’s plan to fake her abduction with help from her boyfriend and two others. Their aim was to extort three million naira from her parents. Rapid Response Squad officers rescued the girl unharmed in Malaysia Forest, Awkuzu. They arrested two suspects, identified as Chinedu Nwobi and Okwudili Nweke, both 25. The victim admitted moving between locations for two months to maintain the hoax. Her boyfriend, known as “Stainless,” fled and remains at large. Authorities recovered ten SIM cards, an MTN 4G Wi-Fi device, a phone, computer cables, a white bandage, clothes, jewelry and a calabash used to simulate a genuine abduction. The girl’s parents had already paid ₦240,000 into her account before the scheme was uncovered. In a related operation, police also arrested a suspected kidnap gang leader in Obosi. Officers seized a double-barrel shotgun, live cartridges and a victim’s phone. Investigations continue as the command vows to prosecute all involved and strengthen community cooperation against crime.
