Reconciling Jesus’ Omniscience with His Statement on the Day and Hour
Jesus is fully God and all-knowing, yet He spoke as the incarnate Son when He said He didn’t know the day or hour. In that servant role His divine knowledge was veiled and not revealed through that human office. Scripture affirms both aspects. Mark 13:32 records Jesus saying only the Father knows that day. Yet 1 Timothy 3:16 and Colossians 2:9 declare that all the fulness of deity dwells in Him. John 14:10 shows the Father at work within the Son, and passages like John 16:30 and John 21:17 record the disciples acknowledging His omniscience. In becoming human He hungered, slept, grew in wisdom (Luke 2:52), and humbled Himself (Philippians 2:7). After His resurrection He claimed all authority (Matthew 28:18) but reminded the disciples that knowing times and seasons is the Father’s alone (Acts 1:7). This explains how Jesus is truly omniscient in His Godhead while speaking from the limitations of His earthly mission.
