Trump Threatens Major Strikes After Iran Rejects Hormuz Ceasefire Plan

Trump Threatens Major Strikes After Iran Rejects Hormuz Ceasefire Plan — 1 of 2
1 / 2

US President Donald Trump set a firm deadline of 8 p.m. ET on April 7 for Iran to agree to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He warned during a media briefing that bridges, power plants and other critical infrastructure could be hit within hours if Tehran fails to comply. The Islamabad Accords offered a 45-day ceasefire and an immediate reopening of the waterway, followed by 15 to 20 days of talks on sanctions relief and nuclear issues. Iranian officials rejected the proposal, demanding a permanent end to hostilities with guarantees against future attacks. Iran’s military leadership vowed devastating retaliation if civilian targets are struck. Both sides have launched strikes in the region, including missile attacks and Israeli raids on Iranian energy facilities. High-level envoys from the US, Pakistan and other nations have tried—and so far failed—to broker a truce. The Strait of Hormuz handles a significant share of the world’s oil shipments. Any disruption could trigger a wider geopolitical and economic crisis.
