Ridwan Ajayi Wins NANS JCC Lagos Chairmanship After Cast Vote Breaks Deadlock

Ridwan Ajayi Wins NANS JCC Lagos Chairmanship After Cast Vote Breaks Deadlock — 1 of 3
1 / 3

On March 28, 2026, the NANS Joint Campus Council Lagos chairmanship election ended in a 5–5 tie at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka. Delegates from tertiary institutions across the state participated in what observers called an orderly, transparent and credible process. Security operatives, including officers from the Department of State Services and Sabo Police Station, were on hand to maintain order. With votes evenly split between Ridwan Ajayi and Odewumi Quadri, convention chairman Sanni Sulaimon exercised his constitutional right to cast the deciding ballot. He affirmed that the election adhered strictly to democratic principles. Comrade Ridwan Ajayi’s victory ushers in a new phase of inclusive governance and strengthened advocacy for students throughout Lagos State.

True, it's a win, but I wonder if that narrow margin will truly shift representation for most campuses.

It's interesting that despite claims of transparency, a single cast vote decided the outcome of such a tied election.

I'm not convinced that one cast vote resolves all concerns about fairness in a hotly contested student election.

Student bodies should consider introducing runoff voting or proportional representation to avoid such deadlocks in future campus elections.
