Fortune FA Triumph in Thrilling JOF U-13 Cup Final

Fortune Football Academy of Oshodi claimed the 7th JOF U-13 Cup after a tense penalty shootout. The final against FC VI-Foot ended goalless before Fortune FA held their nerve to win 3-1 on spot-kicks at the University of Lagos Sports Centre. Heavy rain left the pitch waterlogged, but the young players displayed skill and resilience under tough conditions. Earlier, Soccer City Football Academy edged Ultimate Football Academy 1-0 in the third-place play-off. Champions received ₦750,000, while runners-up took home ₦500,000. Individual awards went to Okoroma Destiny as top scorer, Odesola Odunayo as MVP and Alabi Faruk as Best Goalkeeper. The tournament chair praised the discipline and passion of all participants. He reaffirmed the JOF U-13 Cup’s role in nurturing future stars and growing grassroots football in Nigeria.

Do we know if it was the slick mud or the standing water that really threw off the takers during those spot-kicks?

It's interesting that despite the heavy rain and waterlogged pitch, both teams kept a clean sheet through regulation time.

I'm not convinced the shootout nerves were the main factor; those slippery conditions probably threw off both teams' technique more.

Teams should inspect the field drainage ahead and bring extra boots so you no go slip when heavy rain soak the pitch again.
