FHA Lugbe Residents Protest Alleged Sale of Emergency Access Road
Residents of 1Q3 Road in the FHA Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, staged a peaceful protest over the alleged allocation and sale of part of their access road to a private developer. They say the disputed corridor is the community’s only emergency exit and a natural stormwater pathway. Residents fear that construction could restrict access for emergency services, worsen flooding and erosion, and divert runoff into nearby homes. The residents said they have petitioned the Federal Housing Authority and that police directed construction to pause pending clarification. They want the FHA to publish the estate’s approved master plan, investigate later allocations, and reverse any development found to be on a road reserve or drainage corridor. They maintained that they support lawful development but want planning decisions to protect public safety, access and the environment.
