Eileen Gu Wows Met Gala in 15,000 Glass Bubbles
Olympic freestyle skier Eileen Gu made a showstopping entrance at the 2026 Met Gala in a custom Iris van Herpen mini dress crafted from 15,000 glass bubbles. The Dutch designer’s piece blends futuristic tech couture with playful surrealism. Gu revealed the dress took 2,550 hours to create and uses hidden technology to merge reality with art. She completed her look with transparent heels and only a hint of earrings beneath her textured updo, while countless bubbles floated around her on the red carpet. When asked by ESPNW why sports are art, Gu said it’s about self-expression, breaking boundaries and being your truest self. Already the most decorated freeski athlete in history, she claimed six medals across the 2022 and 2026 Winter Games.
