Simeone Admits Arsenal, PSG and Barcelona Eye Alvarez

Simeone Admits Arsenal, PSG and Barcelona Eye Alvarez

At his pre-match press conference, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone confirmed interest from Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in forward Julián Álvarez. “I’m not inside Julián Álvarez’s head,” Simeone said. “He’s an extraordinary player, so it’s normal that top clubs want him.” Since joining Atletico for £82 million from Manchester City, the 26-year-old has netted 48 goals in 104 appearances and was part of Argentina’s 2022 World Cup-winning squad. He missed Atletico’s last two games with a minor injury but is expected to face Arsenal in Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg. According to Sky Sports, Arsenal plan to be active in the summer window and aim to add a forward as well as a central midfielder and a full-back.

I'm not so sure Alvarez is ready for the pressure at one of Europe's biggest clubs straight away.

Atletico should focus on contract talks now, otherwise they risk losing Alvarez for a bargain fee next summer.
