Zamfara Education Commissioner Resigns as Governor and Assembly Move to APC

Wadatau Madawaki has stepped down as Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology after Governor Dauda Lawal defected to the All Progressives Congress. He said his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party left him no choice and denied any coercion. The state government accepted his resignation and named Abdulmalik Gajam as the acting commissioner. Madawaki stressed that resigning was an honourable decision in light of the governor’s move. In a sweeping shift, all 24 members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki and other key lawmakers, also joined the APC. They cited the need to back the governor’s development agenda. Governor Lawal, Deputy Governor Mani Mummuni and several executive council members have similarly defected. The APC will hold an official reception for its new members, signalling a major political realignment in Zamfara.
