Why NDC’s Presidential Primary Is a One-Man Show for Peter Obi
Peter Obi will be the sole aspirant in the NDC’s presidential primary after the party barred all other candidates from picking forms. Though the NDC says it zoned its ticket to the South East, it effectively zoned it to Peter Obi alone. He will face no opposition and will be declared the winner by default. A new selection board approved just one candidate for every position in the 2027 elections. This avoids direct primaries that might expose the party’s low popularity nationwide. Unlike the APC, PDP and ADC—which saw strong turnout in their direct primaries—the NDC fears a low turnout among its members would highlight its unpopularity.
