Lagos Set to Host 15,000 Athletes for Maiden National Intermediate Sports Festival
Lagos State will host the maiden National Intermediate Sports Festival from October 1 to 15, 2026, with between 14,000 and 15,000 athletes expected to participate. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance during an inspection of rehabilitation work at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere. The stadium’s football pitch has been upgraded with natural grass, while work on the tartan track, swimming pool and other facilities is ongoing. Rowe Park and sports centres in Surulere, Ifako, Badagry, Ikorodu, Epe and Agege are also being prepared for the festival. The event is intended to strengthen grassroots sports and create a pathway for young athletes to progress to elite competition.
