Ondo Visits Ore Market After Fire Destroys 14 Shops, Injures 11
Ondo State officials have visited Sabo Market in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area, after a fire destroyed 14 shops on Tuesday night. Traders reportedly lost foodstuffs, provisions, stationery and other goods valued at about ₦800 million. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Early accounts suggested that a solar inverter may have been involved, but authorities said no conclusion had been reached. No lives were lost, although three firefighters and eight residents who assisted with rescue efforts were injured and are receiving treatment. The state government said it would assess the full scale of the losses and consider appropriate support for affected traders. It also plans to work with market leaders to improve fire safety, emergency preparedness and the safe installation and maintenance of solar batteries and inverters across markets in Ondo State.
