Ex-Rector Jailed for Running Fake Enugu Polytechnic Scheme

Ex-Rector Jailed for Running Fake Enugu Polytechnic Scheme

Dr Isidore Ojukwu Nwankwo ran an unaccredited polytechnic in Ndeabor, Ani-Nri LGA, Enugu State. EFCC arrested him in April 2019 and secured a conviction in December 2020. Investigators found the school lacked approval from the Enugu State government, the NBTE and the CAC. Hundreds of students paid N5,000 for forms, N10,000 as acceptance and N35,000 for their first semester before discovering the institution was illegal. He was convicted of obtaining N1,153,700 under false pretence. The court sentenced him to one year in prison and ordered full restitution to affected students.

It's easy to blame EFCC alone, but local authorities should share responsibility for missing the red flags.

Prospective students should always verify NBTE, CAC, and state government approvals before enrolling in any new polytechnic.
