Labour Party Rep from Ebonyi Jailed in Enugu for Being an ‘Outsider’

A Labour Party candidate won the Enugu South-Urban State Assembly seat despite being from Ebonyi. He was sent to prison immediately after being sworn in, accused of not being an indigene. Opponents labeled him “osu,” claiming a non-local could never win in a ward once represented by Jim Nwobodo and Ken Nnamani. Judges in the case have recused themselves, and the Chief Judge is seen as compromised. Critics call it a political witch-hunt involving the governor. Barrister Bright Ngene has been held in Enugu Prison for three years on a bailable charge. The NBA attempted to intervene but reportedly backed down.
