Cross River Couple Jailed 15 Years for Baby Trafficking

Cross River Couple Jailed 15 Years for Baby Trafficking

The Federal High Court in Calabar has convicted Esther Ini Udo (32) and Eyo Stephen Udo (34) for trading in infants. They faced four counts under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act. Investigators say Esther sold her newborn for N300,000 and the couple later bought a one-year-old for N150,000 before reselling the child for N400,000. On April 1, 2026, Justice I. Ojukwu sentenced each to 15 years’ imprisonment with an option of a N2 million fine. The sentences will run concurrently. The judge warned against child trafficking and directed NAPTIP to arrest the alleged buyer for prosecution.
