Military Defends Shiroro Airstrikes, Says Bandits Were Targeted
The Defence Headquarters says recent air operations in Shiroro LGA were based on credible intelligence showing armed groups massing in Lukupe Village on May 9. UAV missions ran from late night on May 9 until early morning on May 10, striking hideouts in Katerma, Bokko, Kusasu and Kuduru. Military officials claim about seventy fighters were neutralised in Kusasu alone. They added that nearby communities had relocated to Sarkin Pawa before the strikes, reducing the risk of civilian harm. Post-strike surveillance reportedly showed remaining bandits fleeing towards Zango on motorcycles. Some residents of Guradnayi allege homes were damaged, though casualty figures are unconfirmed. Authorities say formations have been tasked to verify any civilian impact and urge the media to avoid circulating unverified reports.
