UNIZIK and Kigali Independent University Forge Strategic Academic Partnership

UNIZIK and Kigali Independent University Forge Strategic Academic Partnership — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kigali Independent University (ULK) in Rwanda. The virtual signing on 15 July 2026 establishes cooperation in STEM, Education, Humanities, Management and the Social Sciences. Both institutions will exchange staff, students and scholarly publications. They will organise joint conferences, seminars, workshops and short professional courses. Collaborative research, joint curriculum development and cultural exchange programmes are also planned. Each university will appoint an MoU Coordinator to oversee the five-year partnership, which can be renewed by mutual consent. The agreement clarifies funding arrangements and includes a mechanism for amicable dispute resolution. This collaboration marks another milestone in UNIZIK’s internationalisation agenda. It aims to enhance teaching, research, innovation and academic mobility across Africa.

The arrangement covers STEM, Education, Humanities, Management and Social Sciences, but it's unclear how resources and faculty expertise will be shared across such diverse fields.

Signing an MoU alone won't change much; dem dey talk paper work, but we need clear action plans, budgets and timelines before celebrating this deal.

Local student unions could draft joint proposals and coordinate virtual seminars to kickstart collaboration while waiting for formal exchange programmes to roll out.
