Umahi Suspends Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa Road Work to Review Pavement Specifications

Umahi Suspends Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa Road Work to Review Pavement Specifications

Senator Dave Umahi has ordered CBC Global Civil and Building to halt work on the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa road. He wants the contractor to study pavement mix standards at another project site before resuming. On an inspection tour of the Osun section, Umahi also instructed the team to slow carriageway work and deploy two crews for the outer and inner shoulders. He warned that delays could lead to the removal of the local works controller. The minister gave 24 hours to withdraw a N2.8bn palliative certificate and complete genuine repairs. He stressed that no heavy trucks should park on fresh concrete and that solar lights must wait until shoulders are finished. Umhai praised the contractor’s diligence on the 108km project, noting that 70km has been completed at about one kilometre per day.

This isn't the first time pavement specifications have caused delays; reviewing mix standards could just be another bureaucratic pause.

Contractors should document their pavement mix trials and share findings promptly to avoid further project stoppages and wasted resources.
