Why the 1999 Constitution Shortchanges the Southwest: A Case for More States
I compare population data from NIN registration and other sources to show how the Southwest is underrepresented under the 1999 Constitution. Lagos alone has over 120% of the Southeast’s population, yet the region still has only six states instead of the thirteen it deserves. Using both population and tax revenue metrics, I demonstrate that the Southwest should have at least 13 states — possibly 14 when revenue is considered — if the smallest zone is guaranteed five states. This method could also reallocate representation nationwide to reflect true demographic and economic contributions. I believe any fair federal arrangement must weight both GDP and population. If these principles are not adopted, I support a peaceful disintegration. Otherwise, each region should compete to attract citizens based on real value.
