Zamfara Teacher Killed by Bandits Despite Ransom Payment
A teacher at Federal Government College, Anka, was abducted in early May while travelling to Anka. Armed bandits intercepted the vehicle and kidnapped Mustapha Yahaya Maru alongside other passengers. They demanded an unreasonably high ransom from his family. After intense negotiations, the family raised and paid the agreed sum. Instead of releasing Maru, the bandits killed him on Tuesday. His death has devastated his family and community. This incident has heightened concerns over worsening insecurity in Zamfara State. Local residents fear more attacks as banditry persists across the region.
