Houthis Turn Messaging Toward Saudi Arabia as Yemen Tensions Rise

The Houthis have shifted much of their public messaging from the United States and Israel toward Saudi Arabia as tensions over Yemen’s blockade, fuel shortages and renewed military confrontation rise. Houthi-linked online campaigns now focus on ending what the group calls a Saudi-led blockade. Armed tribal rallies in Houthi-controlled areas have also highlighted readiness for a confrontation with Saudi Arabia. The group says Saudi Arabia is restricting Yemen’s airports, seaports and supplies, while Saudi Arabia backs Yemen’s internationally recognised government. Houthi officials have threatened retaliation against Saudi targets and warned that the United States could also be targeted if it supports Saudi military action. Analysts cited in the report say the messaging shift may be aimed at mobilising support at home, where worsening economic conditions and food shortages are increasing public dissatisfaction in Houthi-controlled areas.
