INEC’s Flawed Use of ‘Status Quo Antebellum’ to Fabricate an ADC Leadership Vacuum

INEC’s Flawed Use of ‘Status Quo Antebellum’ to Fabricate an ADC Leadership Vacuum — 1 of 2
1 / 2

We’ve seen INEC claim a supposed “ADC leadership vacuum” based on its interpretation of a court ruling. But the judgment does not authorize removing David Mark from its portal under any reading. Before litigation, David Mark and his team were the recognized leaders. INEC’s new interpretation simply rewrites that reality as legal compliance. This move goes beyond an administrative error—it looks like a deliberate distortion of due process. An institution meant to safeguard democracy is instead undermining it. If INEC operates this way, Nigerians have every reason to be alarmed. At this rate, our democracy may face unprecedented threats by 2027.

Have you considered why INEC would claim a leadership vacuum despite David Mark's recognized standing before litigation?

What key reasons did INEC offer for claiming a vacuum, especially since David Mark remained in position?

You're right, it really raises questions why INEC would ignore his standing like that.

It's odd that INEC's portal update contradicts the court's plain wording on maintaining the previous leadership.

I'm not convinced a simple status quo ante reference allows INEC to unilaterally erase Mark's name.

Perhaps ADC members should petition INEC for clarification or seek expedited court enforcement to restore accurate records.
