Police Kill Suspected Kidnapper, Rescue Woman in Enugu Forest Operation

Police in Enugu State have rescued a woman who was abducted by armed suspects along Anuka Road in Okpuje, Nsukka Local Government Area. The rescue followed a distress call received at about 10:10 a.m. on July 31, 2026. Officers from the Okpuje Division, working with Forest Guards and Neighbourhood Watch members, tracked the suspects into a forest near the Enugu-Kogi boundary. A gun battle followed, during which one suspected kidnapper was killed. Other members of the gang reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries. The woman was rescued unharmed, while her two children and motorcycle were recovered. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
