Barrister Marshal Sets the Record Straight on the $70,000 Allegation by Tracy Ohiri

I have seen the false claims made by Ms Tracy Ohiri about my involvement in a $70,000 payment. I was the lawyer who organised public-spirited figures—Senator Ireti Kingibe, Comrades Sowore and others—to defend her free-speech rights. Without our intervention, she might have faced imprisonment. Ms Ohiri’s bail was secured after an oral application, despite attempts to keep her in custody. When Minister Umahi insisted there was no contract with her, we explored both litigation and settlement. Ultimately, there was no evidence of any agreement or delivery of services. After negotiations involving the minister’s legal team and Ms Ohiri’s representatives, Barrister Joseph Ekumankama provided $70,000 purely to end the dispute. This was not an admission of debt or contractual obligation but a gesture for peace. I declined any personal fee or offers of fuel and kolanut money. I regret how Ms Ohiri turned against those who supported her. Having no proof for her claims, she chose to recant. I stand by my actions and will consider legal steps if further defamation occurs.

It must be frustrating to face public allegations like this. How do you think such legal interventions from public figures impact trust in our justice system?
