Did Atiku Give Up His Best Chances to Become President?
I have been thinking about Atiku Abubakar's political chances over the years. In 1993, he stepped down for MKO Abiola, who later won the presidential election. In 1999, he also ceded the opportunity to Olusegun Obasanjo, despite appearing to have strong support among governors. Could he have given up opportunities that were meant for him by helping others attain the presidency? With Obasanjo opposing his ambition and a determined incumbent in the race, his chances do not appear favourable. I genuinely feel for him, although I am not on his political team.
