Reece James Admits He’s ‘Devastated’ as Marc Cucurella Joins Real Madrid

Reece James Admits He’s ‘Devastated’ as Marc Cucurella Joins Real Madrid — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Chelsea captain Reece James admitted he was devastated to see Marc Cucurella leave for Real Madrid. The Spanish left-back’s €55 million transfer ended a four-year stint in west London, where he helped the club win the Club World Cup and Europa Conference League. Speaking from England’s World Cup base in Kansas City, James praised Cucurella as one of the world’s best in his position and wished him well in his new challenge. Cucurella’s exit leaves a gap in Xabi Alonso’s defence. Promising talents Jorrel Hato and Valentin Barco are set to strengthen the squad, while 19-year-old Geovany Quenda could also compete for the left-back role. With Alonso now in charge, Chelsea fans can look forward to an exciting new era.

Surely clubs have moved on from losses like this before; James might be overstating his feelings for a bit of drama.

Chelsea should start planning a solid replacement now, focusing on defensive solidity rather than rushing the transfer market.
