Ycee Clarifies ‘Olodo Uprising’ Remarks, Denies Coining the Phrase

Nigerian musician Ycee has clarified that he did not coin the phrase “Olodo uprising.” He said many people misunderstood the point he was making during a recent conversation. According to him, his concern was how the pursuit of money has influenced behaviour in society, with some people excusing questionable actions once money is involved. He rejected claims that his comments were classist or elitist. Ycee added that he holds a secondary school certificate and does not have a university degree. He said he has long enjoyed reading and once hoped to study Computer Science, but was unable to meet the admission quota.

Clarifying that he did not coin it helps, although the wording still matters when a phrase can easily distract from the message.
