Exposing the Harm of the Prosperity Gospel
In recent days, a podcast debate featuring Pastors Yemi Osinbajo, Olumide Emmanuel and Korede Komaiya has gone viral. It focused on the rise of the prosperity gospel in modern churches and sparked divided reactions. After listening to informed commentators, I feel compelled to weigh in. There is no middle ground between true Gospel and a false promise of wealth. You cannot balance Christ’s message of salvation with a gospel that guarantees financial liberation. The true Gospel proclaims Christ and salvation. It commends giving and hard work, but never teaches that giving alone will solve poverty. When giving becomes transactional—aimed at material gain—it ceases to be an act of love and slides into greed. Until we recognize the damage this prosperity teaching causes, the church will stray from Christ’s intent. May God deliver His body from this distortion.
