Atiku Demands Suspension and Probe of Tinubu’s Chief of Staff Over ₦400m Bribery Claims

Atiku Demands Suspension and Probe of Tinubu’s Chief of Staff Over ₦400m Bribery Claims

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Tinubu to suspend and investigate his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, following allegations of a ₦400 million kickback. The claims come from Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who says Gbajabiamila endorsed and benefited from the newly budgeted Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. Adeyemi insists he paid ₦200 million so far and was asked for 48 percent of a ₦27.4 billion grant. Gbajabiamila has denied any link to the council or the payments. Atiku argues that allocating billions to an agency that allegedly does not exist raises serious doubts about the 2026 budget’s credibility. He insists that accountability and the rule of law must apply to all officials, urging Tinubu to lead by example and ensure an independent inquiry.

It seems premature to brand the chief of staff guilty without a proper investigation and evidence beyond hearsay.

A transparent, independent inquiry should be set up quickly to verify the ₦400 million claim and restore confidence.
