Wike Slams Makinde, Turaki Over ‘Illegal’ PDP Faction, Labels Move ‘419 Fraud’

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has accused a faction led by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Taminu Turaki of deliberately flouting court judgments to set up an “illegal” Peoples Democratic Party structure. Speaking in Abuja, Wike described the interim leadership arrangement as deceptive and insisted only a court-recognized body can run PDP affairs. “You cannot disobey court judgments and then deceive Nigerians that you have a legitimate structure,” he said. He warned that any parallel secretariat amounts to fraud. “You don’t form leadership in your bedroom and call it a national structure,” Wike added, urging the public to recognize only what the judiciary has sanctioned. The minister also lamented the erosion of integrity among some senior party figures, saying those expected to uphold the law were bending it for personal gain.

Wike calling the faction '419 fraud' sounds harsh, but we've seen party disputes flare before without real legal backing.

I get Wike's frustration, but isn't accusing colleagues of fraud too extreme without more proof?

Party members should verify court rulings independently and engage mediators early to prevent further factional splits. No be small matter.
