Lagos Launches 24/7 Anti-Crime Patrol Unit to Boost Public Safety

Lagos Launches 24/7 Anti-Crime Patrol Unit to Boost Public Safety

The Lagos State Task Force has unveiled a new round-the-clock anti-crime patrol unit to tackle criminal activities and environmental violations across the state. This strategic initiative aims to detect, deter and neutralise threats before they endanger residents and visitors. Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele explained that the unit will serve as a rapid-response team. Its mandate includes arresting and prosecuting offenders involved in drug peddling, street urchinism, area boy activities (commonly known as Omotaku), raids on criminal hotspots, littering, attacks on officials, quackery, one-chance robbery syndicates and other special offences. Akerele reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to intensify surveillance, patrols and enforcement operations at all identified flashpoints. He urged Lagosians to support law enforcement by providing timely, credible information to help safeguard lives and property.

I'm not sure if more patrols alone can tackle deep-rooted crime issues without parallel investment in community programmes.

Pair the patrol unit with clear reporting lines and regular community feedback sessions to maintain accountability and trust.
