Trademark Clash Threatens 2026 Niger Delta Investment Summit
A new legal battle has broken out over the “Niger Delta Economic and Investment Summit” name. Ken-Eva Consult Ltd, through its solicitors, has accused the regional chamber of trademark infringement and passing off. Ambassador Kenule Nwiya Jnr says he registered the summit brand in 2023 and launched the event in 2024 with a government-backed MoU. His notice demands that the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce stop using the name. The chamber, set up in 2025, insists its 2026 gathering in Port Harcourt is the inaugural edition. The summit, themed “Renewed Hope for Sustainable Development,” runs from May 19 to 21, 2026. Legal experts say the outcome will hinge on prior use and likelihood of confusion. The dispute could shape future intellectual property rights for conferences in Nigeria.
