Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike will miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup after rupturing his Achilles tendon in the Champions League quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain. The 23-year-old was stretchered off at Anfield after pointing to his injured tendon. Since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt last July, he has scored 17 goals across all competitions. French newspapers reported the severity of his injury on Wednesday. Ekitike earned eight caps for France, scoring twice in his last four international appearances. The upcoming World Cup runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026, across the United States, Mexico and Canada.
