Osun 2026 Governorship Debate Cancelled Over Security Concerns
The Osun 2026 governorship debate scheduled for Saturday at Aurora Events in Osogbo was cancelled shortly before it was due to begin. Journalists, stakeholders and at least one candidate had already arrived and waited at the venue. An initial report said the cancellation followed an alleged directive from the National Broadcasting Commission. However, the organisers later said they jointly called off the event because of unfavourable security reports and the reluctance of some leading candidates to participate. The debate was organised by Uniq FM, Rave FM, Diamond FM and Fresh FM. It was expected to feature Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, Najeem Salaam of the ADC, Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party and Olajide Esan of the AAC. Organisers said the decision was taken to protect candidates, guests, journalists and the public amid reports of unrest in parts of Osun State. They said any new arrangement would be announced through appropriate channels.
