Lagos Rolls Out Ebola Safety Guidelines for Hotels and Social Venues
The Lagos State Safety Commission has advised all hospitality and social centres to strengthen hygiene and screening measures in light of renewed Ebola concerns overseas. The Director-General emphasized that, while no Ebola cases have been reported in Lagos or Nigeria, the city’s role as an international gateway demands proactive health safeguards. Hotels, nightclubs, event centres, lounges and restaurants must provide running water, liquid soap or alcohol-based sanitisers at all entry points. They should also intensify cleaning of frequently touched surfaces using hospital-grade disinfectants. Operators must train staff on early illness recognition, conduct daily health checks, enforce strict sick-leave policies, designate ventilated isolation areas and manage crowd sizes. Any suspected case with severe fever should be reported immediately to state health authorities via the emergency hotlines.
