Lagos Man, 55, Arraigned for ₦200m Agrochemical Theft

Lagos Man, 55, Arraigned for ₦200m Agrochemical Theft

Operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command in Lagos have arrested 55-year-old Aliyu Idris. He is accused of receiving and dealing in stolen agrochemicals valued at ₦200 million. The products were diverted while in transit from Shagamu to Minna. Idris appeared before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on charges of conspiracy and stealing. Prosecutors allege a truck driver in Apapa colluded with accomplices to divert the goods and sell them to Idris, who knew they were stolen. Magistrate Oseni granted bail of ₦5 million with two sureties but ordered that Idris remain at Ikoyi Correctional Facility until conditions are met. The case has been adjourned to May 5, 2026, for mention.

I'm not sure blaming Idris alone will fix the underlying corruption in our agrochemical distribution channels.

Installing GPS tracking on all agrochemical consignments and regular transit audits could greatly reduce opportunities for such thefts.
