Ex-DSS Chief Reveals Abacha Died During Intimate Encounter at Aso Rock
Nearly three decades after Gen. Sani Abacha’s sudden death, a retired senior DSS official offers a dramatic new account of his final hours. In his memoir, a former Assistant Director of Operations and Intelligence at the Lagos DSS Command says Abacha suffered a fatal cardiac arrest at about 4:05 a.m. inside the Aso Rock Guest House during an intimate meeting. He recounts that Abacha’s girlfriend left after the incident, but her younger sister stayed behind. The sister returned to find the ruler unresponsive and fled in panic. She then flew back to Lagos before security agents could question her. After Abacha’s Chief Security Officer was informed, security teams tried to trace the woman. During interrogation, she insisted she had nothing to do with his death, saying, “I did not kill him. He died on top of me.” Investigators concluded the former head of state died from a coitus-induced cardiac arrest, dismissing long-standing assassination theories. Abacha ruled Nigeria from November 1993 until his death on June 8, 1998.
