David Mark’s ADC Appeals to High Court to Restore INEC Recognition

David Mark’s ADC Appeals to High Court to Restore INEC Recognition

The David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja. They are asking the court to reverse INEC’s decision to remove the party’s recognition. In the motion before Justice Emeka Nwite, Mark seeks a mandatory injunction to force INEC to attend and monitor ADC’s conventions pending the suit’s conclusion. He also wants the commission to restore the names of all National Working Committee members on its official portal. INEC removed the names of Senator David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola on April 1. The suit was filed on April 7 by SAN Sulaiman Usman and follows a March Court of Appeal ruling in a related suit by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe. Some forum members mocked the legal move. One wrote: “You went back to the same court and judge you’ve been disobeying? Lol. All this dancing and clowning at INEC’s office will backfire.”

Do you think winning that court appeal could change how voters or local chapters view ADC's credibility?

It seems unusual for a party to rely on court rulings instead of internal reconciliation with the electoral commission.

Calling the suit a savior might overlook ADC's responsibility to address any internal issues that led to de-recognition.

ADC should gather solid evidence and witness statements before filing, to strengthen their case with Justice Nwite.
