Building Nigeria’s Innovation Ecosystem: Lessons from Global Success

Building Nigeria’s Innovation Ecosystem: Lessons from Global Success

I’ve noticed that leading ecosystems like Silicon Valley and South Korea didn’t emerge by accident. They grew through intentional interventions—institutions, funding, collaboration, and visibility platforms. Governments, universities, and private leaders invested in research labs, technical training, startup grants, and commercialization systems. Over time, these building blocks compounded into world-class innovation engines. In Nigeria, we have brilliant talent and entrepreneurial energy but still look outward for better incentives and stability. Yet local efforts—innovation hubs, accelerators, bootcamps, and events like the Enugu Tech Festival—are quietly laying the groundwork for long-term growth. True ecosystem engineering requires policy continuity, strategic collaboration, and the right incentives so that building locally becomes as attractive as seeking opportunities abroad.
