NLC Shuts Down AEDC Offices in Abuja, Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger Over Mass Sackings

The Nigeria Labour Congress has locked out the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company in Abuja and three neighbouring states. Offices in Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger are under lock and key as workers protest the dismissal of nearly 900 staff. NLC president Joe Ajaero explained that many affected employees were neither of retirement age nor long-serving. Some had just two or three years on the job. He described the move as a betrayal of earlier assurances. The union gave AEDC management a 48-hour ultimatum to reinstate the sacked workers. Ajaero warned that failure to meet the deadline would lead to escalated industrial action, risking power outages across the Federal Capital Territory and the three states.
