Ex-Taraba Governor Jolly Nyame Quits APC, Citing Community Marginalisation

Ex-Taraba Governor Jolly Nyame Quits APC, Citing Community Marginalisation

Former Taraba governor Jolly Nyame has left the All Progressives Congress, accusing the party of sidelining him and his supporters. He announced his decision after meeting with political associates following Federal High Court proceedings in Jalingo. Nyame said consultations with stakeholders from Zing Local Government Area confirmed long-standing neglect in political appointments and decision-making. He noted that years of loyalty had not brought meaningful inclusion for the Mumuye, Yandan and Yorti communities he represents. Although supporters urged him to contest in the 2027 elections, Nyame stressed that his priority is now to build alliances focused on real development and stronger representation for his region. He warned that continued neglect of their concerns could deepen political discontent.

How might Jolly Nyame's departure from the APC affect his supporters' influence in Taraba politics going forward?

You're right, stepping away from APC will likely reduce his supporters' leverage unless he finds a new platform quickly.

I doubt his supporters' sway will vanish so quickly; local politics often hinge on personal networks rather than party labels.

Absolutely, his defection will likely shrink his camp's sway in party decisions and local power talks.

I get your point, but his backers may still hold sway if they shift focus to community projects instead of party label.

It's curious how quickly Nyame downplayed legal proceedings to frame his exit purely as community marginalisation.

I'm not convinced this was solely about marginalisation; it feels like a strategic move to rebuild his image ahead of the next elections.

Stakeholders in Taraba could hold open dialogues to address concerns on both sides and prevent further political fragmentation.
