Domestic Airfares Jump 20.8% to ₦157,552 as All Transport Costs Climb
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows average domestic air travel fares rose 20.86% year-on-year to ₦157,552.19 in May 2026, up from ₦130,361.85 in May 2025. Kano recorded the highest average air fare at ₦184,139.29, followed by Lagos at ₦176,971.65. Gombe and Nasarawa had the lowest rates, at ₦135,800.61 and ₦138,999.14 respectively. Bus fares within cities climbed 38.63% to ₦1,431.25 per drop, while intercity bus journeys rose 21.89% to ₦9,699.55. Okada riders paid an average of ₦1,072.51, a 52.45% hike, and waterway fares increased 30.88% to ₦2,276.48. These figures highlight widespread transport inflation across air, road, and water routes.
