Bayelsa’s Monthly Wage Bill Hits ₦13bn as Civil Servant Salaries Top ₦7.7bn

The Bayelsa Government has broken down its monthly salary obligations, revealing a total wage bill of about ₦13 billion. In April, civil servants’ salaries accounted for ₦7.74 billion. Political appointees earned ₦1.95 billion while salary arrears stood at ₦428.66 million. Retirement-related payments included ₦200 million in gratuities and ₦259.71 million in pension arrears. Additional allocations covered grants to tertiary institutions (₦2 billion), local government salary contributions for primary school teachers (₦229 million), youth corper allowances (₦60.27 million) and minimum wage arrears (₦50 million). Bayelsa’s gross revenue for March was ₦42.3 billion. The administration says it is committed to transparency and urges residents to visit project sites to see funds at work.
